Myths About Suicide by Thomas E. Joiner5/27/2023 ![]() People who are prevented once from killing themselves will not necessarily try again. Threats of suicide, far from being idle, are often followed by serious attempts. It is not a manifestation of "suppressed rage" or a side effect of medication. ![]() He shows that suicide is not easy, cowardly, vengeful, or selfish. Drawing on a fascinating array of clinical cases, media reports, literary works, and scientific studies, Thomas Joiner demolishes both moralistic and psychotherapeutic cliches. This clear and powerful book dismantles myth after myth to bring compassionate and accurate understanding of a massive international killer. Yet many of us know very little about a tragedy that may strike our own loved ones-and much of what we think we know is wrong. ![]() ![]() Around the world, more than a million people die by suicide each year. ![]() Judd by J.D. Toombs5/27/2023 ![]() The symbolism paired with the struggle to accept one’s self is what you’ll find at the centre of this tale and it’s bravely executed. Terminology and abilities like ‘technomancy’ and ‘magnekenisis’ sound cool and these concepts are only really touched upon as most of the story focuses on Judd’s journey and his high school life which is most probably just the beginning. There are some unique and interesting concepts in this world of Fragment’s and that world building is something I want to see more of. There are only a few he can fully trust and confide in – perhaps the most realistic thing about the social politics of high school, something this story captures well. If both are revealed the repercussions could be disastrous, at least to him anyway. The only problem is our main character and narrator Samael Judd doesn’t appear to have any powers… That is without mentioning the many pressures he faces for someone his age from stepping out of his older brother’s shadow to even making the basketball team and while he does his best to hide a lack of powers he’s also concealing his sexuality. ![]() ![]() ![]() Welcome to Aries High, a school for those with unique powers but in this world they are known as Fragments. ![]() Betsy schow spelled series5/27/2023 ![]() But a forced marriage to the not-so-charming prince Kato is so not what Dorthea had in mind for her enchanted future. ![]() ![]() Sure, being the crown princess of Emerald has its perks-like Glenda Original ball gowns and Hans Christian Louboutin heels. ![]() Somewhere over the rainbow, all spell is about to break loose in the first installment of this clever and hilarious YA fairy tale retelling trilogy, perfect for fans of Dorothy Must Die and Jen Calonita's Fairy Tale Reform School seriesįairy Tale Survival Rule #32: If you find yourself at the mercy of a wicked witch, sing a romantic ballad and wait for your Prince Charming to save the day. ![]() Rules of civility audio book5/27/2023 ![]() The novel focuses on Katey’s life and choices of the following year, as she finds herself forming new relationships and mingling in the upper echelons of New York society.įirst Line: “On the night of October 4th, 1966, Val and I, both in late middle age, attended the opening of Many Are Called at the Museum of Modern Art-the first exhibit of the portraits taken by Walker Evans in the 1930s on the New York subway with a hidden camera.” That meeting and the resulting friendship leads to far-reaching consequences for each of their lives. Both girls are fascinated by the sophisticated yet boyish banker and the trio struck up an immediate if tenuous friendship. So one wielding a sword and being all independent is something of a novelty, and even a turn-on. In the south, you see, women are concubines, property, chattel, barely human at all. Though he clearly thinks she's on a hopeless quest, Tiger agrees to be Del's guide in the hopes he can get some of that sexy northern poosay. Del is looking for her brother, captured by raiders and sold into slavery five years before. ![]() The tale begins when Del, a dazzling blonde swordsmistress from the frozen north, tracks down the Sandtiger (Tiger for short), a smug, rascally rapscallion in the "young Clint Eastwood by way of a young Brando by way of every romance novel studmuffin ever written" mode, who plies his trade as a "sword-dancer" in the harsh Southron desert country. Sword-Dancer is an admirable introduction to the six-volume adventures of Tiger and Del, one of fantasy's more popular and appealing odd couples. ![]() Achebe things fall apart5/27/2023 ![]() ![]() They enjoyed things together even if they may be negative like the large horde of locusts that invade their tribe. Lang delivers a defense of empathy (as opposed to me-firstism) in his final show, but an obsessive love affair with a beautiful, independent and secretive young mother reveals itself as an entanglement with dark and strange passions, all of which lead to unanswerable questions of innocence and intent. Lang's problem is not so much a failed marriage and looming cancellation as that he's fallen out of step with his culture, which is entering capitalist hyperspace and expressing itself through reality TV and Game Boys. ![]() ![]() Finnish Westö's first novel to be translated into English follows the dramatic midlife turns of Christian Lang, a sometime Helsinki writer whose pseudointellectual talk show boosted him to local fame.
